Glossary
- Fennel seed
Fennel seed has been primarily used to stimulate good digestion. It relaxes the smooth muscle lining of the digestive tract and has helped alleviate acid-stomach, flatulence, food poisoning, motion sickness, nausea and vomiting. Fennel is an aromatic stimulant that is good for the gastrointestinal tract and relieves abdominal pain, colon disorders, gastrointestinal tract spasms and helps to expel gas and ease puppy colic. Fennel is considered a very effective expectorant that has been known to expel mucus accumulations. As an antifungal, Fennel is said to inhibit yeast growth and is effective against Candida albicans.
- Ferrous Sulfate
Ferrous Sulfate is an essential element carrying oxygen, forming part of the oxygen-carrying proteins - hemoglobin in red blood cells and myoglobin in muscles. It is also a component of various enzymes and is concentrated in bone marrow, liver, and spleen. The production of hemoglobin and myoglobin (the form of hemoglobin found in muscle tissue) requires this nutrient. It is also needed for the oxygenation of red blood cells, a healthy immune system and for energy production.
- Folic acid
Folic acid is required for DNA synthesis and cell growth and is important for red blood cell formation, energy production as well as the forming of amino acids. Folic acid is essential for creating heme, the iron containing substance in hemoglobin, crucial for oxygen transport. It is important for healthy cell division and replication, since its involvement as coenzyme for RNA and DNA synthesis. It is also required for protein metabolism and in treating folic acid anemia. Folic acid also assists in digestion, and the nervous system, and works at improving mental as well as emotional health. This nutrient may be effective in treating depression and anxiety. Shortage of folic acid may be indicated with diarrhea, heartburn and constipation. Folic acid is very important in the development of the nervous system of a developing fetus.
- Fructose
Fructose is a simple sugar found in many foods and is one of the three most important blood sugar along with glucose and galactose.
